Thermostat settings on your air conditioning system and life expectancy.

Thermostat settings on your air conditioning system are most times directed by personal preference as well as energy savings preference.

For example, the Energy Star program recommends a setting of 78 degrees for conserving energy and staying comfortable while you’re in the home – plus, programming your thermostat for higher temperatures when you’re away during the day.

Others might be more comfortable at 75 degrees, or lower. Again, it’s a balance between your personal comfort and your desire to save on energy usage.

Then there are those other very unfortunate times when the temperatures in your house are not at all what you want them to be. And with growing discomfort, you watch those temperatures inside your house rise to 80, 85, 88… Not good. Not good at all.  Can your temp settings cause you to get a new system?  Its possible...

It is inevitable for an air conditioner to need replacing at some point in time, but this does not mean you should replace yours whenever you run into an issue. Using home A/C repair service is a better alternative, and this is because they can diagnose the situation and lay out your best options.

Consider the Life Expectancy

An air conditioner is only expected to last so long, and you must understand this when it comes to replacing or repairing yours. Most air conditioners last around 8 to 12 years, which means most problems that you experience in the first few years are worth fixing as long as it is not too expensive. However, having a major issue after a decade means you should look into purchasing a new one.

Analyze Efficiency of Old and New

With technology improving at all times, there may be a year or two when a significant improvement is made to air conditions compared to previous models. It is crucial to understand that even though you may be able to repair a problem for a decent price, upgrading to a new and more efficient air conditioner may end up saving you more money in the long run through lower energy costs.

Consider the Condition of Your Air Conditioner

If you have been through several problems with your air conditioner before, and it continues to have problems, you may be better off moving on and buying a new one. It is important to have a reliable unit that does not require your constant attention to ensure it operates correctly. Analyzing the current condition of your unit can help you determine whether it is better to fix the problem or go with a replacement.
